I have not walked the full path as a primary caregiver—but I have been deeply shaped by love, loss, and the sacred stories shared with those I held closest.
With my Great Aunt, before Alzheimer’s took hold, we spent countless hours talking. She felt an urgent need to pass on her memories, her wisdom, her life. I listened—sometimes as niece, sometimes as scribe, always as witness.
With my Aunt who battled cancer, our sweetest moments came through storytelling. We spent hours reflecting on life together. As I think back on those conversations, I realize we were preparing each other’s hearts for her transition. It was our way of staying connected, soul to soul.
From both of these beautiful women, I learned something life-changing: Caregiving is more than tasks—it is relationship, memory, and meaning. And the most powerful moments we shared undergird and propel my research as I strive to lay the foundation for something revolutionary.
